General Summary: This is a full-time position for web application development and support for the Front End Processing team. The individual filling this position will primarily be involved in design, development, and support related to an internally developed business application called WorkFlow. Primary initiatives will include rewriting the WorkFlow desktop application currently supported in VB6, to be rewritten as a webapp using ASP.NET technologies. Experience with the conversion of VB6 to a .NET solution is a must. Primary responsibilities will include web application development, but may include some desktop development as well. Web application development will include both client development as well as service level development utilizing WebLogic. Under general supervision, the candidate who fills this position will collect requirements information, assist in design, trouble-shoot, support, develop and implement applications. Also provide technical support to other colleagues and respond to the issues queue. Must be able to work independently, as well as work on many projects in a team environment. Ability to learn quickly and retain information in a fast paced environment, have good customer service skills and courteous phone manners. Selected individual will carry a pager on a rotating on-call basis and be available for after-hours support. Selected candidate should have the ability to guide less-technical colleagues through fixes over the phone. Essential Responsibilities: • Performs and may direct software coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and installation tasks a desktop application called WorkFlow. • Performs and may direct software coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and installation tasks for on-line and batch processes in accordance with industry best practices and specific internal procedures and standards for a web application called Coventry Connect. • May train other staff and may review the technical work of other staff. • Provides on call support and may coordinate on call response efforts as assigned. • Contributes to development and directs task identification, work effort estimates, and work schedules for development and maintenance activities. • Participates in and may direct problem definition and problem resolution activities. • Participates in and may direct the analysis and definition of efficient, cost effective application solutions which support client business processes and functional requirements. • Coordinates with internal departments to provide associated deliverables required for the successful completion of development and maintenance assignments (e.g. database development, job scheduling, network support, etc.) • Performs other duties as required. Position Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent job experience • Significant experience (at least 3-5 years.) in all phases of applications software development/maintenance life cycles in a client server environment. • Knowledge of UNIX systems development including Perl, regular expressions and shell scripting. • Four+ years of recent experience working with the following technologies: o Microsoft Visual Basic 6 o Visual Studio.NET • Recent experience is also desirable with the following technologies: o CSS o HTML o Java Script o XML and XHTML o J2EE development o AJAX / Web Remoting a plus o MVC (Struts, Tapestry, JSF) o Familiarity with Ant build process o Eclipse o BEA’s WebLogic Application Server • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required. • Solid understanding of databases, design and best practices.
